Achieve a sculpted jawline, smooth away lines and wrinkles, and eliminate fat pockets on the neck that make you look older than you are.
Due to aging or significant weight loss, individuals can develop what is known as a “turkey neck”, in which loose, hanging skin distracts from the beauty of the neck. The jawline becomes lax and undefined, and some develop a double chin. There are usually two components to a neck lift: cervicoplasty, which removes excess skin, and platysmaplasty, which removes or tightens muscles in the neck. A neck lift can be performed alone or as part of a facelift.
If you’re in the Baton Rouge area and you’re interested in a neck lift with Dr. Stephens, you may be the perfect candidate for this procedure. Those who typically make the best candidates for a neck lift are men and women who:
At Stephens Plastic Surgery, the cost of neck lift surgery typically ranges between $6,000 to $9,000. This fee encompasses various aspects of the procedure, including operating room expenses, anesthesia fees, and post-operative care. To ensure that the benefits of neck lift surgery are accessible to a broader range of patients, Stephens Plastic Surgery offers financing options. These financing plans enable individuals to manage the expenses associated with their neck lift surgery more comfortably by breaking the cost down into manageable installments.
A neck lift is done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The procedure usually takes 2-4 hours to perform, and most are performed on an outpatient basis. The procedure begins with a small, inconspicuous incision directly below the chin (platysmaplasty) and/or in front of the ear lobes, looping behind the ears and ending in the scalp near the back of the neck (cervicoplasty).
Sagging skin is trimmed away and lifted during cervicoplasty. Loose muscles that cause the “bands” around the neck to be prominent are tightened during platysmaplasty. In some cases, it is necessary to perform only one of the two procedures. Incisions are glued and/or sutured closed. Liposuction is sometimes used to remove excess fat. If so, it will be performed before the neck lift.
The majority of patients return to work and other normal daily activities within two weeks, once bruising and swelling have subsided.
Strenuous activities should be avoided for 4-6 weeks
Swelling and bruising from a neck lift can last up to 10 days
Medication is prescribed to help alleviate discomfort
Applying cold compresses and keeping your head elevated for the first 48 hours following surgery minimizes swelling
Keeping your head still and avoiding turning or twisting it for the first few days post-surgery is recommended
Bandages covering incisions are removed after a few days; sutures are typically removed after 7-10 days
Results can last up to 10 years
