Labiaplasty Procedure

Sometimes, women are affected by an enlarged or irregularly shaped labia, which can be the cause of discomfort, pain, irritation, and overall unhappiness. If you are experiencing these symptoms and looking for relief, you may want to consider a labiaplasty.

WHAT IS A LABIAPLASTY PROCEDURE?

The labia has two main parts - the labia majora  (outer parts of the female genitalia) and the labia minora (inner tissues of the female genetalia). During a labiaplasty, Dr. Stephens will reduce the size of the labia minora so that it is flush with the labia majora. A labiaplasty can be performed for both medical and cosmetic needs.

LABIAPLASTY PROCEDURE DETAILS

If you think a labiaplasty may be right for you, the first step will be to sit down for a consultation with Dr. Stephens. He will ask you about your goals for the procedure and discuss the specifics of the treatment with you. This will be your chance to ask any questions or air any concerns that you have. Dr. Stephens will then put together a personalized treatment plan to provide you with the best possible results.

A labiaplasty is usually performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. Dr. Stephens will remove the excess tissue from the labia minora so it is aligned with the labia majora. Typically, this procedure takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete.

AFTER YOUR LABIAPLASTY PROCEDURE

Dr. Stephens will provide you with post-surgical instructions in order to reduce the risk of infection and ensure that you heal properly. During your consultation with Dr. Stephens, he will let you know how much time you’ll need to take off work and normal activities to ensure proper healing. Most women recover and return to normal activity within 1-2 weeks. However, you will need to refrain from sexual activity for at least 6 weeks.
