Thigh Lift Procedure
Tighter, More Toned Thighs. Having excess skin or pockets of fat in the thigh area as a result of weight loss or aging can lead to self-consciousness and avoidance of wearing swimsuits or other clothing where your legs are exposed. A thigh lift is a great option to correct this.

WHAT IS A THIGH LIFT?
Individuals who are unhappy with the loose skin or excess fat in their thigh areas may be candidates for thigh lift surgery. This procedure can remove some excess fat, but it is not a substitute for diet and exercise, nor is it a weight loss solution. Many individuals experience loose or stretched skin in the thigh area due to aging or significant weight loss. At Stephens Plastic Surgery + Skincare Aesthetics of Baton Rouge, we offer multiple body contouring procedures including thigh lift surgery for tighter, toned thighs.

BENEFITS OF A THIGH LIFT
Appearance of the thighs is greatly improved
More comfort while performing daily activities
Hygiene is often improved
Reduced skin irritation and rashes
Enhanced self-image and confidence
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A THIGH LIFT?
During your consultation with Dr. Stephens, several factors such as your overall health, medical history, cosmetic goals, and expectations will be discussed prior to surgery to determine if a thigh lift is right for you. Other body contouring procedure options can also be discussed during this time.
Although you will require a consultation to determine if you’re a good candidate, in general those who make the best candidates for this surgery are men and women who:
Are bothered by the appearance of their thighs
Are at or close to their goal weight
Have a body mass index of 35
Are non-smokers in overall good health
Have realistic expectations for what a thigh lift can do

THIGH LIFT PROCEDURE DETAILS
During a thigh lift, excess skin and sometimes fat are reduced to achieve definition and provide a more natural contour to the thighs. In cases where fat is removed, liposuction may be used, depending on the individual. Incision patterns will depend on the amount of correction needed, as well as your individual condition and goals.
Dr. Stephens will carefully make incisions in the most discreet places possible to minimize visible scarring. After thigh lift surgery, your skin will be tighter and your thigh muscles will be more toned for an improved appearance. During your consultation with Dr. Stephens, he will discuss your surgical options with you. A thigh lift is performed under general anesthesia and may be done using the vertical, lateral, or medial technique depending on your skin, severity of your cosmetic concerns, and your personal aesthetic goals.
VERTICAL THIGH LIFT:
Addresses the inner thigh and knee area; incision runs along the groin crease and on the inside of the thigh.
LATERAL THIGH LIFT:
Addresses the upper part of the outer thighs; incision reaches around the waist.
MEDIAL THIGH LIFT:
Removes and tightens moderately excessive skin at the upper inner thigh; incision is created in the groin fold and reaches to the crease of the buttocks.
WHAT RESULTS TO EXPECT
Early results will be noticeable immediately, but will look better and better over the course of the next several weeks as the swelling goes down. The final results are visible at 2-3 months as the skin begins to tighten and settle.
AFTER YOUR THIGH LIFT PROCEDURE
Because each individual heals differently, there is no concrete answer for how long recovery will be. It may take days or weeks before you feel well enough to return to work and normal activities. Most patients experience mild soreness, bruising, and swelling after surgery which will subside after the initial healing process and is typically easily controlled. To care for your incision sites properly and reduce the risk of infection, please closely follow these instructions:
- Your compression garment should be worn for three weeks to get the best results
- Please return home right after surgery
- Limit your activities for 24 hours and have someone assist you
- Swelling and bruising are to be expected
- Please keep the dressings secure
- Apply ice packs to the incision area for 48 hours
- Take the prescribed pain medication as needed. Don’t take it on an empty stomach or with alcohol
- You may shower 48 hours after surgery, but re-apply your compression garment following your shower
